# Accepting USDT as a merchant: what to verify

**Short answer.** A merchant that accepts USDT TRC20 should verify the network, the incoming transfer and the sender before treating a payment as final. Wait for the confirmed status, and screen the sender against the Tether blacklist and OFAC.

## How do I accept USDT TRC20?

Give the payer a TRON address (`T…`, 34 characters) and say clearly that the network is TRON/TRC20. USDT on TRON is the contract `TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t` ([Tether](https://tether.to/en/supported-protocols/)).

## How do I confirm the payment arrived?

A TRC20 payment is a `Transfer` event of the contract, not a TRX transfer ([TRON TRC-20 interface](https://developers.tron.network/re/docs/trc20-protocol-interface)). Watch it with [incoming-transfer alerts](/guides/usdt-incoming-transfer-alerts/) and treat it as received only after `transfer.confirmed`.

## Why screen the sender?

Funds from a blacklisted or sanctioned address can cause problems for you later. OFAC lists digital currency addresses but not exhaustively ([OFAC FAQ 562](https://ofac.treasury.gov/faqs/562)).
